... before his arrival in Formula One, Jenson Button never raced on anything other than Quantum Shock Absorbers.

AVAILABLE IN ANY COMBINATION OF BLACK, CLEAR OR PURPLE ANODISING

Quantum mono-tube shock absorber are built up from aluminium components entirely CNC machined in Britain. Most components are interchangable to suit your application. We are offering a shock absorber derived from Quantum's championship winning Formula 3 version - with suitable end fittings.

The Quantum Shock Absorbers will be smaller in diameter than a comparable shock absorber. It contains less oil and is lighter in weight.

See the manufacturers web site: www.quantumracing.co.uk

Comparing our Quantum shocks to others on the market is a little more difficult but let us just say, most of Quantum sales are to Teams and individuals competing in National Formulas, incl:

  • Formula Ford Championship 2005, 2006, 2007,2008 and 2009 with Jamun Racing
  • Formula Vee Championship 2008 with GAC
  • Sports 2000 Championship 2008
  • Formula 3 Championship and Macau Grand Prix 2006 with Double R
  • Formula 3 Championship 2009 with Daniel Ricciardo driving for Carlin Motorsports
  • Formula Nippon 2009 with Loic Durval dring for Nakajima Racing

Quantum are a small specialist British manufacturer who still make "in house" all their shock absorbers assuring a top quality product every time.

We can supply shock absorbers to suit your requirements with various compression and rebound ratings. Also available are Faulkner springs of various ratings.

Please contact us for more information and confirmation on prices (may vary from above price). These are not cheap but for the very best in performance and quality there is no substitute.  You will notice the difference.

From: £310.50 each inc vat.

Shock absorber technical info:

Without wishing to over simplify things there are 2 types of shock absorber. Mono-tube and twin-tube. They differ only in how they compensate for the volume of oil displaced by the shaft when fully compressed.

Oil inside a twin-tube shock absorber will move from the inner "pressure" tube to the outer "reservoir" tube through a valve at the base of the shock.

A mono-tube shock absorber has a chamber of high pressure gas at its base, isolated from the fluid. This is compressed as the shaft is introduced.

It is important to note that a twin-tube shock absorber is not pressurised and the gas is not isolated from the fluid.

So ...

Because they are not pressurised, twin-tube shock absorbers are more susceptible to cavitation. This can cause inconsistent damping.

Because the gas is isolated, mono-tube shock absorbers can be run inverted - body side up - thereby reducing the unsprung mass. (Twin-tube shock absorbers normally cannot be run upside down unless of a certain quality and would then need to be bled to get the air out.)

Because they contain fewer component parts, mono-tube shock absorbers weigh less.

Because the reservoir tube acts to insulate the pressure tube, twin-tube shock absorbers are inefficient with regards to dissipating heat.

There are exceptions to the rule but the above generally holds true.
